|Bird Scarer ....|

He has this curious notion that if the pigeons were 'taken care of' we'd 'all flock back' to the square. It's part of the recurring daydream, that we should embrace cafe culture and bask in the sunshine......which of course is where the whole idea falls down. Of course this would be nothing to do with the new Carluccios cafe opening this Tuesday, on the site of the former Boizots Miss Pears champagne bar - oh, that never worked either !?
Cathedral Square is also a dangerous place to be from 4pm onwards, we've reported on robberies, opportunist bag snatches, sexual assaults and endless episodes of shop lifting and petty crime in the town centre. It is no secret that nearly two thirds of Peterboroughs entire Enterprise cleaning bill is devoted to the City Centre!
To test out the theory, we did our own survey of the square and yes there are a few pigeons around, (its been cold enough to trigger two cold weather payments) the birds ( or animals as Cllr Fox calls them....) have migrated in to the City to warm up, as fields and farmland are frozen hard, and take advantage of a never ending city centre stream of food mainly from the many take away outlets and the hamburger stand right on the square and the McDonald burger unit nearby.

The fountains in Summer also supply a convenient pigeon spa experience. From Thursday to Sunday the pigeons also supplement the diet with piles of vomit and dumped kebab/chip wrappers, which is a main by-product of the night time economy, as featured on the SkyTV late night channels in the 'Cop Squad' series.
Cllr Fox is asking for expert help and intends to annex some public funds for the purpose. Her's some advice for free. Ring up your local bird centre, a trained hawk flying around for an hour will clear the birds for at least a week.... or better still tow the burger van to Werrington ....
