BUDGET PUBLIC CONSULTATION STARTS AT PAGE 175
PBOROtrib strongly recommends you follow the link and read the Budget document in full and turn up at the 'rubber stamping' Cabinet meeting on the 25th at the Town Hall. Our position is that the cuts (trumpeted as SAVINGS!) are really a series of SAVAGE CUTS some totally unjustified. PBOROtrib would like to have seen the Chief Executives Office slash its own budget or make a fully costed 'austerity' case for its continuing expenditure, and as the last Director of Communications at the PCC has departed (that didn't last long- Ed!) For example a budget range car pool for council officers and the directorate, might now be appropriate ....
Pet projects such as the unproven solar park adventure and possible wind farm have been ring fenced. As an example of silly spending, an astonishing £300,000 is to be lavished on St Peters Arcade (home to the Council run Barista (yards away from Starbucks, Costa and Carluccios) Cafe, RADAR toilet, and the Council Information Centre and tourist tat shop [a tat too far -Ed.] to fit sliding doors either end, and locked at 6pm.
Which of course will further severely reduce evening access to the City Centre, and also deny disabled people access to the RADAR disabled toilets and disabled drivers access to the city centre if they park in the designated bays behind the Town Hall. It will also frustrate public access to Town Hall meetings as the public gallery can only be reached by several flights of stairs from Bridge Street!
