|An ice cold blast will be blowing through our Wards|
At TRIBtowers we've heard of a few batty ideas, but this is the very latest doing the rounds. The plan, says our inside man, is to ensure ALL local Wards are in future represented by just three councillors (in each ward). This will entail the ward boundaries, being redrawn and several wards losing chunks of their voting populations to the next ward. Stanground East would vanish, (which might suit the likes of Cllr Turnip, as is rumoured to have finally broken in an Italian style bicycle ) to be taken into a revised Stanground ward. We expect to be shouted down by some councillors, but they don't even know yet, so just remember where you read it first!
We understand the changes are designed to co-incide with the next General Election. But if this is the case councillors elected in the previous local elections (in a couple of years time) won't be able to put in a full term. Stanground, Fletton and Woodston will be one of the major casualties if the plan goes through.
These changes if carried out can only but enhance the Conservative vote, the current majority party, but if ward boundary changes remain as they are, there will be further significant losses sustained by the major parties as the desire to vote has taken a battering lately and further declines are being forecast..
