|John Hayes MP|
Cllr. Councillor Cereste has finally responded to Energy Minister John Hayes, in a blusterous retort, he said:
“Mr Hayes is an MP and he is perfectly entitled to his opinion.
“But I don’t share his views and they are not going to alter our plans in any way.
“As I have said before, if the planners ** reject this scheme then we won’t do it, but we will have to find another way of raising future money.
“My job is to do what is right for the people of Peterborough and if this energy park goes ahead it will produce substantial sums of money.”
** PBROtrib comment: A very safe bet, based on recent planning decisions, any PCC planning decision will go exactly the way the majority party leader wishes, rather than the professional planners advise vis: Stanground Surgery, Stanground Burger King, Mass Burn Incinerator Plant and Freemans solar farm (failure) to name a few.
In a letter to the chief executive of Peterborough City Council, whose scheme it is, Energy Minister John Hayes MP wrote: “I share the concerns of my constituents who are unclear why the beautiful, and flat Fenland countryside has been chosen for the construction of half a million solar panels, and nine large wind turbines, when there are many suitable brownfield sites nearby.”
John Hayes, the Tory coalition energy minister who once vowed he would “protect our green and pleasant land” from wind turbines, is now objecting to the dear leader Marco Cerestes' plan to build Britain’s biggest solar energy farm on council owned prime farmland, right next to the Energy Ministers' own currently Tory safe seat constituency.

Hayes in a letter to Gillian Beasley, (the £200k plus a year Chief Executive of the Peterborough City Council) criticised plans for a reputed £300m long term debt financed solar energy farm that will cover - or blight - up to 900 acres of prime agricultural land near Peterborough, for the next fifteen years or so.
The grandiose plan (widely reported in the PBOROtrib AND CLICK ON THE LINKS BELOW ) will see a staggering half a million solar panels - probably imported from Germany - planted where once dairy cows roamed and food crops were harvested. Some commentators say that Energy Minister Hayes intervention, as a local MP, possibly risks a flare up with Ed Davey, the Liberal Democrat environment secretary, and effectively encourages opponents of solar panel farms elsewhere.
In a letter to the chief executive of Peterborough city council, whose scheme it is - although the dear leader Marco Cereste would seem to be the only member of Cabinet totally 'gung ho' for the speculative 15 year venture - Hayes adds : “I share the concerns of my constituents who are unclear why the beautiful and flat Fenland countryside has been chosen for the construction of half a million solar panels and nine large wind turbines when there are many suitable brownfield sites nearby.”
The scheme isn't helped by the fact that a smaller rooftop scheme on the old Freemans building has so far failed and the PCC is threatening legal action.....
