No sooner have the council tax demands, along with the dire propaganda sheet 'Yawn Peterborough' (Your own Town Hall Pravda) been mailed out, do we hear repeated rumours from very reliable sources that Cllr. Marco Cereste ( "Re-election manifesto" Page 10, 'Yawn Peterborough') is being seriously challenged for leadership of his Conservative majority party on Peterborough City Council.
The basis of the challenge, it is reported, is a promise to scrap the mega solar energy farm ( err.. we now hear its conditional if something else can be substituted). Especially as the pathfinder Freemans solar generation project has turned out to be such a damp squib, and yet to produce any generated revenue...

The 'Dear Leader' of course has the ideal get out, as an Iron Age burial site has now been found and by the time archaeologists have finished digging up the site, the project could slip a few years down the line. What is even more surprising is that the challenge comes we are told from fun loving Cllr Wayne 'Fitz' Fitzgerald. His Interview with Paul Stainton on BBC Cambs is up there with the Sheila Scott OBE car carsh.
Needless to say the Trib is sitting firmly on the fence, and unless the PCC ratbag of an opposition can finally step up to the plate, throw off 1950's TUC carthorse politics and other historical baggage [Look it up 'Low, Garland, Emmmwood - cartoonists'] and pull as one; the robotic voting Tory faction even faced with mounting anger over bedroom tax and wefare changes could well scrape back in, or it could be a dose of coalition politics. Cllr Cereste in return is expected in the near future to have a cabinet clear out, although the Tory gene pool is currently somewhat undernourished.
Matters are so bad that even the serially mundane Cllr.Turnip (aka Cllr Harper Stanground East ) has given up on councillor surgeries, now claiming that room hire is too expensive, and that the telephone is always available. No one has yet confirmed if he has returned the substantial stipend he trousered for chairing the Neighbourhood Committee, but we hear that several FoI's are addressing this very topic. which during his tenure has been dumped. A small proportion of that would of course hire several dozen rooms, but as he is a Trustee of the Stanground Community Centre, why cannot he hold a regular surgery there or even squat in Stanground Public Library as other Councillors do?
