UPDATE: PBROTRIB has passed on 5 serious enquiries, hopefully something positive will result!
|Peterborough Panthers in 2010|
(Pedants Corner: For the many who have asked: The BBC CAMBS Breakfast Show this morning constantly referred to the Elite League, but in the official press notice, it was called the TOP League)
The owners are quitting the sport and the Peterborough speedway team will be disbanded unless a new owner can be quickly found, who can pump funds into the Peterborough team.
To own and run the internationally recognised Peterborough Panthers and its TV rights, would cost a fraction of the money the Peterborough City Council has relentlessly pumped into Peterborough United, and would be a good investment for an organisation seeking to tap into this growing sports market with its associated International TV deals, still on terrestrial non-subscription free to air TV screens.
Harness said:“There has been an atmosphere of reality which has led to changes in team structure and league membership. I am saddened to acknowledge that Peterborough have resigned their position in the top league and that their owners have chosen to leave the sport.
“All is not lost as there is an opportunity for new owners to consider purchasing Peterborough, and we have left the door ajar for the club to participate in British Speedway.
“Peterborough’s place will be taken by Leicester, which retains the top league at ten clubs, and the Premier League will be at twelve.”
The Edinburgh promoter was speaking immediately after the conclusion of the AGM in Coventry.
