The PBROTRIB had a frantic call (December 2nd) from a London PR firm, who stated Pret Chickens (not any old chickens you understand) have now stopped clocking up the air miles, as frozen raw chicken meat, from darkest Brazil, and are now locally reared and killed within the UK, this is how they put it:
All our chickens are bred here in the UK to the Higher Welfare standard. This means they’re reared in purpose-built houses with windows down each side, allowing natural light to stream in.
They also have straw bales and perches to play with to keep them fit and active. The hens have 20% more space than the industry standard, giving them the room they need to move freely.
These standards meet the RSPCA's recommendations for stocking density and have the support of other key organisations such as Compassion In World Farming (CIWF).
PBROTRIB CHRISTMAS CRACKER #6
Cllr Lisa Forbes who recently shrilled on Twitter that she had to go all the way to London, in order to get pine nuts sprinkled on a Chicken Salad, she will be amused to learn that her chicken may have travelled a bit further, 7,000 miles further.....
Our Lisa who is running for Labour against Stewart Jackson MP, was delighted that Pret a Manger has opened in Peterborough, just weeks before the Council tear up the road in front of their Queensgate take away eaterie and fell some long established London Plane trees in the process - Bridge Street all over again. The Sunday Telegraph originally broke the 'chicken story.
Chicken is big business in Brazil. Very big business. One of the largest companies involved is Perdigao, a multi-billion pound conglomerate that processes meat for Britain.
