Peterborough City Council Councillors, members of the Scrutiny Committee have formally voted earlier tonight asking the Cabinet to step in and stop the plans for an Energy Park.
The committee discussed a detailed report into the energy park, which is to be sited on land in the Newborough area. The application was made by Cllr Dale McKean, who voiced concerns that a total spend of £296 million for a solar energy park. The application is to be put before the cabinet at the next meeting in the new year.
Cllr McKean said: “A significant spend on a project that is estimated to generate £320 million - that’s not a big return is it? I don't understand how we can go ahead with this project with such a high level of risk and a poor rate of return. I am also concerned that the financial figures have changed drastically in the past year and when you factor in future delays this could continue.
“The councils' spent just over £2 million and it isn’t even up and running yet.
Cllr. Marco Cereste and family have returned to Italy for the Christmas/New Year period, no doubt they will be logging in to the PBROTRIBjust to keep in touch!
