A male attempted to mug a woman on a bridge in Peterborough before claiming to be fixing his bike chain.
The incident happened on Rhubarb Bridge, over the A15 Lincoln Road, at about 10.40am Wednesday December 18th.
The victim, a 41-year-old woman, had walked onto the bridge from Willesden Avenue when she was pushed from behind, causing her to fall towards the railings.
The man then attempted to grab the bag she was carrying but she pulled back. She challenged the suspect who was sitting on a bike but he claimed he had almost fallen off after having problems with the chain.
The victim looked at the chain and it was fixed securely.
The man, who made off onto Lincoln Road, was described as white, in his early 20s, and wore a black jacket, black woollen hat and carried a ruck sack.
DC Lee Lombardo, who is investigating, said: "I believe the offender tried to quickly grab the victim's bag but she held on so he changed tack and made out he'd done nothing wrong.
"I would appeal to anyone who was in the area and recognises the description given to contact police."
Anyone with information should contact DC Lombardo on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
