Stand Up, the well minted Council executive Simon Machen, (who recently trousered a cushty well padded out mega pay rise voted through by Peterborough Councillors), who now has the cheek to glory in the fact that the Bourges Boulevard soon to unfold roadworks disaster - starting on May 27th - immediately the elections are forgotten, done and dusted, will take at LEAST A FULL YEAR, to complete but will still cost Peterborough residents and rate payers, adding to the debt mountain under the Cereste dynasty by some £4.5 million. The local newspaper fell for the hype and has seemingly given up challenging Mr Machen, and his comfortable laid back appoach.

Slowly week by week, Mr Machin - who commutes into this City - the grandly titled PCC Director of Growth and Regeneration [Trades Description Act ???] has sanctioned the Gallic style, slowburn year long strangulation of the essential business lifeblood of this City, causing London bound commuters untold delays, missed trains, day to day vehicle both goods and commuter traffic reduced to a single lane either way - that should totally wreck just in time merchandise deliveries to the new Waitrose and the entire City Centre Pubs, Clubs and shops...effectively marooning the Railway Station and the Great Northern Hotel, as the French owned contractor Eurovia, thumbs its nose and relectlessly sucks out the profit to line the Euro coffers in Paris.
Although Mr Machin coyly offers an advance apology: We appreciate there will be delays for motorists, however we are doing all we can...." but there is the rub. HE ISN'T! Still a string of partner building goodwill trips to the South of France, for conservative cabinet members, might help to lessen the pain.
Why is the PBROTRIB up in arms about all this? Any serious major infrastructure project would be working around the clock, seven days a week, to get it finished quickly. But the Dear Leader is so desperate to leave a lasting public realm legacy, (up for re-election in 2015...) the fountains and small dirty boy wash, clearly not one of his finest, so they've chosen this a tacky cheap daylight working option.
Simply, Mr Machin would never get away with this in Cambridge i.e. work only during the day, and from time to time an overnight session!!! What on earth is he thinking??! This site is uniquely ideal for non-stop 24 hour working as its bounded by multi level car parks on both sides and no residential neighbourhoods to worry about.
The new international owners of the Queensgate shopping centre, and its many retail tenants will be alarmed to hear that its Christmas retail period has been reduced by Mr Machen to just nine weeks November to the New Year, when tools will be put down, and double lanes opened in each direction (WOW!) Bill Kenwright isn't rushing back to The Broadway by all accounts either!
Yeah right! Could be Marcos' new Town Hall - anything is possible......
Just how has this City been saddled with a eurostyle hotchpotch, just look at the history from the British website, but curiously no mention of the French parent:
