Living proof that the pre-election majority Conservative administration under the former Dear Leader (now renamed Pauli ' Cereste ' Walnuts) as recast as NOC or NO OVERALL CONTROL after the election, is rapidly descending into financial meltdown, and that former council solicitor, now recast as PCC Chief Executive Gillian Beasley ( my CV is up to date ), has seemingly little grasp on Council finances, is confirmed as a further money extraction demand comes thudding out of the blue into our computer this evening....
Having played by the rules, and paid upfront and in full (on April 15th) for the Cereste Brown Bin Tax, and offered a £3 discount and a bag of compost (collect it yourself) for our troubles by the PCC, an incorrect bin sticker was sent out with personal details on, this subsequently reprinted with the personal details omitted. New sticker placed on the bin, end of the matter.
But gentle reader not so!
The TV Sopranos family made their money from garbage collection, and had little problem in collection or extorting the charges from not so 'willing' customers. Its now transformed into real life by the Peterborough City Council.
An organisation, unknown to us, GoCardless.com, - they claim to be working for the PCC - and we presume Pauli Cereste Walnuts - and authorised to set up 'subscriptions' and send out e-mail demands? It states that Peterborough City Council are setting up a subscription of £12 every 2 months for brown bin charge...... BUT WE'VE ALREADY PAID IN FULL!
On top of the full years brown bin tax already paid, they now intend to take the first charge of £12 on 2nd June and carry on until 1st October 2014. They further state that payments for the subscripton will appear on bank statements as GOCARDLESS.COM.
To cancel we have to log into our gocardless.com account???? BUT WE DONT HAVE A GOCARDLESS.COM ACCOUNT! and just who are these jokers employed by Pauli Cereste Walnuts?
GoCardless was set up in London by computer nerds Tom Blomfield, Matt Robinson and Hiroki Takeuchi in 2011 with the aim to, they say, make it "simpler for small businesses to collect direct debits online." Its backed they say, by $4.8m of investment from major UK and US venture capital firms including Accel Partners, Passion Capital and Y-Combinator, the business serves around 3,500 UK firms helping them to collect millions of pounds every month..... Yeah right!
Once an individual has been given advanced notice of the amount due and the date of collection, the organisation can deduct the money automatically!!!!
In the UK, the direct debit scheme is run by BACS in partnership with RBS, which guarantees GoCardless’s liabilities, the firm plugs directly into BACS’ direct debit framework.
We suggest that everyone with a brown bin carefully double check their bank statements for any unauthorised debits from Gocardless.com. The Council claim more than 29,000 people have already signed up. By collecting the money twice over, that makes a tidy little earner, it would take months to sort it all out and return the money..... it would really make the short term PCC cash accounts look good. Cushty! You really could not make this up...
Just fancy that...
