Affecting countries across West Africa, the Ebola crisis is far from simple. But many of the items that can protect people against the disease are.
Soap, mops, bleach, face masks - they're all life-savers. So OXFAM is in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Senegal, Gambia and Guinea-Bissau providing them – and doing lots more besides. But with millions of lives at risk OXFAM urgently needs to scale-up its response.

Julian Bray writes: During the Peterborough City Council meeting Cllr Fitzgerald wondered what would be Peterboroughs response if EBOLA victims were discovered. Sadly the response was not encouraging. Some of the other councillors just laughed....
Meanwhile on BBC Cambridgeshire during Paul Staintons brilliant new mid morning programe earlier today, I took part in a studio discussion. Unlike the councillors in Peterborough, who clearly should take this seriously, no one was laughing. Listeners were concerned, and had clearly bothered to properly reseach the topic.
Make no mistake EBOLA is a killer. It is passed on by contact and touching infected materials. The slightest touch or contact is all it takes. There is no known cure except isolation and possibly some experimental vaccines. The medical professionals are feeling their way, just as we all are.
The Government clearly not wishing to panic the population, however isn't tellling us everything we need to know, and should clearly be taking major precautions. And putting far more in, in terms of resources. Equally other counties should be doing the same. Few are. Part of the problem for the medics, is that the condition is complicated, as symptoms (basically fever - high temperature) does not present itself until after some 10 days of first infection.
The other complication is that as there are currently no direct flights into the UK from this part of West Africa. Infected people NOT SHOWING SYMPTOMS may take flights to other parts of the word, then re-route to our shores.
Clearly the problem is (rather like the Norovirus winter vomiting bug outbreaks) is that people will not seek to disavantage themselves, for the sake of others.
We've seen it with cruise ship passengers, the Norovirus bug arrives on board with a KNOWINGLY infected passenger, who should have cancelled, but as they are on board, need to be quaranteened for a few days, but selfishly they leave their cabins and every surface and handrail they touch, infects others. Norovirus is easily treated but with EBOLA its a new and very deadly threat. It is expected to physically hit our shores later on this month. At least you have now been physically warned.
