Word reaches Trib Towers that baked potato street vendor John Donovan is to hitch up his 'Spuddy Marvellous' bakehouse on wheels, and quitting the retail Jonah that is the 'Cereste Memorial' revamped 'Bridge Street of hard knocks' in Peterborough City Centre.
John has been vending spuds for some sixteen years from his tiny bakehouse and finally foiled up his last King Edward, and upended his last can of baked beans.
John puts it down to being 'mashed' by the greedy rents being charged by Peterborough City Council for the pavement pitch, noting the rents continue to spiral upwards, so much that what he takes is virtually paid over to the debt laden City Council, possibly to top up Cllr Elseys City Centre 'bread & circus' fun budget and pay for new CYCLE FREE ZONE notices.
There is slight hope the baked spud mobile might make a guest appearance at some time in the future if invited to do so by the dear leader, as John isn't selling the unit, and it could well pop up at county shows and festivals. Who knows?
All we have to do now is tackle the remaining lingering smell of kibbled onions from the hot dog and burger stand in Cathedral Square.... any ideas? 'Increase the rentals?' Give that man a turnip!
