Good sport over the last few days, if it wasn't so serious, the Dear Leader has finally taken to Twitter in a last ditch attempt to repair the terminal damage left by the financial largesse of the last few years, black holes appearing everywhere. Vanity project after vanity project, at the expense of doing what they were voted in to do, and that was to simply deliver efficient council services to a growing and ageing population.
Clearly not helped by Cllr Turnip (Cllr Christopher John Harper CON Stanground East) publishing endless screeds of 'happy clappy' all is wonderful dialogue, admittedly much of it secondhand from the party zero-hour contract scribblers in London. Painstakingly pasted and copied. All may be well in the fantasy world of turnips, but still misleading statements, that are totally at odds with the stark financial reality of the day.
The City is in huge fiscal trouble, just how difficult is it to get the message through? But still Mrs Beasley continues to add to the already inflated City Council payroll. A £95,000:00 plus package hire is being firmed up this very week! MADNESS!
Make no mistake, the Conservatives may well - due to the relentless postal vote processing machine exclusively available to their Tory candidates - marginally scrape through next May, if only for the simple reason that Labour supporters in this City are still hoping for a return to a bygone age of socialism, and are hopelessly divided, but polemics apart, the financial reality which will still cruelly impact on this City, post election will still need to be addressed..
Peterborough is however a Labour Parliamentary Target (Number 79 on the General Election 2015 list) The sitting Conservative Stewart Jackson currently on a 'fact finding mission relating to wind farms'.....in lawless HONDURAS, South America! Personally I'd be working his home constituency as he only had a majority of 4,800 last time. Whoever wins will enjoy at best, a pyric victory at local government level, and not much better at parliamentary Westminster. The worst is yet to come...
The City of Peterborough Budget has almost financially gone down the tubes, fuelled by a rash of high end hair brained schemes, that have made consultants, lawyers and accountants from London rich, but left this City at risk and very broke. Although the amount of alcohol and catering entering the back door of the Town Hall might cause you to think otherwise.
Simply unless the City shuts down most services ( including the ring fenced 'bread and circuses' budget ) we'll have to be bailed out, possibly by a squad of civil servants from London. THAT IS THE REALITY. We've seen the newly released two part consultation questions and frankly who ever drafted them, is playing games. See for yourself the documents are on this link. The questions even ask if the Mayor and Deputy Mayor should be dumped ... you'd need to dump a whole stadium full of them to make any material impact on the debt mountain.
But if we've not depressed you enough, in a whole string of frenetic tweets, the following one has a Dear Leader Loud Klaxon blast to it... we put the Dear Leader to the proof of what he says. It will of course mean sweeping aside his favourite get out of jail card "on grounds of commercial confidentiality". You might like to try providing some answers in the form of a pub quiz. The most outrageous get the star prize a bag of turnips and a 'Crackerjack' cabbage. Who said we've not entered into the festive spirit?
THE PBROTRIB SAYS OK PROVE IT CLLR CERESTE! OPEN THE BOOKS FULLY THIS TIME, KEEPING NOTHING BACK....
Who maintains it?
Who pays for the fountain utilities?
Who pays for the Director, executive and officer time physically lavished on the Square and environs (and office overhead etc)?
Who pays for the alcohol licence fees for the Square?
Who pays for chewing gum removal? Square regrinding of surfaces
Who paid for the new £90,000 fountain filtration plant and new works when the original specification was useless?
Did we recover the addition remedial spend from the installer/contractor?
If not, why not?
