Some £30million has been contracted by Peterborough City Council to provide expert refuse and cleaning up services for the next thousand years (well seems like that) and the Environment Agency looks after our rivers and flooding. So why in the sweet name of King Neptune is Cllr Turnip AKA Cllr. Christopher John Harper (CON Stanground East) not only shovelling Stanground East resources into kiddies football in Cardea, and now without community funding, asking for volunteers to risk their heath to clean out ponds, possibly for yet another self-serving election photocall, he says he'll provide a boat and tools, but the Community payback teams have already refused? It is also the nesting season for ducks and swans so why for some cheap publicity stunt, disrupt their essential life cycle? The closed season for fishing is soon on us as well.....
Community payback were right to refuse as they could face exposure to Weil's disease. This wicked infection is caught through contact with infected animal urine (mainly from rodents (rats) cattle or pigs), generally in contaminated water, and typically enters the body through cuts or scrapes, or the lining of the nose, mouth, throat or eyes.
After an incubation period that can vary from three days to three weeks, most patients suffer severe headaches, red eyes, muscle pains, fatigue, nausea and a temperature of 39C or above. In roughly a third of cases there is a skin rash; sometimes hallucinations. In very severe cases, symptoms include haemorrhaging from the mouth, eyes and internally
There is significant and rapid organ damage: liver and kidney failure can occur within 10 days, leading to jaundice (these are the only cases that can properly be called Weil's disease). Hospitalisation, followed by antibiotics and often dialysis, will be required if the patient is to survive. Recovery can take months.
Cllr Turnip has had five years, we say five wasted years. Look after your own health, stay safe, tell the councillor to row his own boat...judging by recent pictures, he needs to lose a few pounds after a year of fine dining at our expense, and a liberal dress allowance from public funds for Mrs Turnip...but still no proper funding for the Stanground Library, it will close - or just fall down.... £ 12 billion of public cuts are to be announced AFTER the election. Our neglected Library just doesn't have a chance...pass the Kindle.
