A heavily leaked e-mail and an attached report is currently doing the rounds. Apparently, we are told by a senior Conservative source, sparked off by one of our informative posts in the Peterborough Tribune, which has caused the Conservative Grandees to take a deep interest in how the Cambridgeshire police & crime commissioner has performed.
Simply they are not impressed, especially as a local blogger Richard Taylor has taken to video taping almost every public meeting, running them on the internet and popping up with questions ( as is his right as a citizen ) questions that Sir Graham seemingly finds both irritating and difficult to answer.
Local wags have also picked up on Sir Grahams' likeness to comedian Roy Chubby Brown. Mr Brown is said not be too flattered and just hopes Sir Graham isn't 'nicking' his material...
The word is that with the current threat level at the second highest rating, the political role has changed just as police budgets have been slashed, the Cambs top Cop has called it a day and a recently convicted criminal Cllr Peter Hiller (Conservative) is still taking photocalls, and at the centre of Peterborough City Council. Some say as a result, strange planning and budget decisions have been pushed through lately. We couldn't possibly comment, just as long as bunches of keys are kept under lock...
Meanwhile Sir Graham Bright has it is claimed been 'spending public money like water' refusing to move his office into any number of available surplus police buildings, preferring his own leafy location to suit his social life, this in turn has cost a fortune, as the police national computer and other high level IT services have been retro plumbed into the expensively fitted out new offices.
He's also built up a retinue of support staff, sub contractors, consultants and 'professional' advisors on salary and fee levels that would not look out of place in London. Our understanding is that he is to announce that he will not be offering his services when the elections take place next year, but he has been told that any final announcement must not be aired before the Conservative Party conference and the timing of the announcement to be agreed by the party PR team.
In the interim period, he is to fudge any response, keeping any critical press and broadcast comment to a minimum during the conference season.
