You may well wonder why our serial man about town on MPsexpenses OUTED BY IPSA AS A NON PAYER OF EXPENSES RELATING TO A PESKY PARKING CHARGE!!....and convivial ligger Stewart Jackson (Conservative) the MP with the much reduced majority, bent over backwards (err not in the way that some of his 'chums' may have done in Dolphin Square near to Westminster Pondlife) to facilitate the gaggle of London Property Developers (see smug picture above), to acquire the old Peterborough District Hospital site at an eye watering knock down near giveaway price.
A site in a prime jaw dropping location, clearly far too valuable for social housing, that had it been marketed professionally would have been snapped up by a major development consortium.
The point that swung it in their direction, and strongly promoted throughout by the MP, and won them the contract was the SPECIFIC PROMISE of affordable housing and the almost OTT backing of the local MP! Mind you with Cllr Turnip (aka Cllr Harper one time Electrician, Roofer & social climber and standing next May for Stanground South - Good Grief! ) Chairing the Planning Committee clearly anything is possible!
To say at this stage after the contract is in the back pocket, they (the sharp suited London property developers) cannot afford to do it because of the cost of remedial works is patently copper bottomed rubbish. As if that is not enough, London Property Developers, might like to take a look at this article on London property development, it seems the property market for upmarket off plan property in Nine Elms, London has crashed due to the dire state of the Chinese financial markets. The question is will LPD be around in a couple of years time, or come back again asking for another reduction? You decide.

The Developers as part of the original bid put in site reports, engineering reports, all costed and knew that it was a brownfield site and they would have to spend the money before parcelling it off. A quick look at their report and accounts and slender reserves, suggest they work on the OPM model (OPM - Other Peoples Money)
If these initial reports by professionals are wrong then the developers can always hand back the site and take the misleading professional consultants to Court. So the likes of Cllr Turnip aka Cllr Harper now resident in the renamed Poo Farm - has a big Poo Farm being built next to Park Farm next to his house and near Cardea ( Cllr Turnip is dumping Stanground East and intends to run for Stanground South (includes Cardea ha!ha!) next May
He seems to have supported the waiver to exclude affordable housing on this and green flagged the project through along with other Tories so we can look forward to a whole estate of mansions in the £3/4 - £2million bracket and no requirement to have social housing on any part of the development! CUSHTY!

PAUL STAINTON: There was uproar in Peterborough yesterday after permission was given for a developer to backtrack on plans for the old Peterborough District Hospital site. You know, the thing that’s been derelict for, well, since the old Queen died. Lands Improvement Holdings had been set to pay £1.2 million to Peterborough City Council and build more than 50 affordable homes on the site. But the company claim they now can’t afford it, and at a meeting last night pleaded with councillors to reduce the amount of money to less than £1 million, AND to scrap any plans to build any affordable housing.
