Did Stewart Jackson MP realise fellow Conservative Cllr Andrew Coles is also the Chair of the OFSTED damned VOYAGER Academy 'Sink' School !

Professor Jimmy Edwards in 1960's BBCtv WACCO!

Julian Bray writes: You always have to be walking on eggshells when Stewart Jackson MOP (should be MP, but he's probably had a bit of hair weaving done over the long Summer break judging by his latest pictures) sounds off and Voyager Academy , a truly near 'basket case' really needs looking at. The latest OFSTED reports are linked below. Truly shocking reading.

Having put my three boys through school (and paid for it), rather than having a go at the Head, Stewart Jackson - but more importantly Council Officers and Councillors including the current Voyager Chair - a Peterborough City Conservative Councillor  - should be looking closely at the Board governing the Academy. Demanding changes....

The Board is supposed to back up the teaching staff, and if there is a discipline problem, or the existing teachers unable to cope, then exclusions are really not the answer - they are a sign of abject professional failure and blight the future careers of the teachers concerned, many will leave.

It really is a case of increasing the teaching salaries to attract in a tough crisis management team capable of rescuing the children at this school. Consider cutting class sizes by half and possibly shipping out a third of the pupils.

Reintroduce compulsory sports / circuit training. Introduce School street patrols to monitor out of school behaviour. The council already has spare school accommodation, a place currently used for meetings and conferences (near Sainsburys ) the name escapes me..

With minimal effort that will serve as a Voyager annex and for heavens sake change the silly name to something the children can be proud of.

Notice I've not used 'Young Persons' or 'students' they are still children needing education and guidance. Clearly some come from difficult domestic circumstances and many probably arrive without a breakfast inside them.

If the school does not have a strong Parent Teachers Association its time to start one. Peterborough children deserve better.

Cllr Sheila Scott is packing it in next May, perhaps a few councillors might like to join her?  Particularly the Chair of the Voyager Academy Governing Body, the recently elected Conservative Cllr Andrew Coles (and beekeeper) who is seemingly stepping into Sheila Scotts shoes with responsibility for Peterboroughs Childrens Services !!!! If they cannot get a grasp of this Local educational matter, rather than the MP showboating in Westminster allegedly pulling a few strings, possibly using this as a diversion from the pressing matter of tax credits which will impact on over 70% of Peterborough children next April.

Clearly Cllr Coles should be making a public statement and rapidly standing down from the Voyager Governors. Looking after Peterborough Childrens Services, which has had its own serially adverse reports, is more than enough even for a retired Met Policeman!
