Dozens of train routes many tracing the route of the proposed HS2 route have been cancelled, and roads have been closed in Scotland, England and Wales.
Scores of severe flood warnings are in place in England, with two more issued in south-west Scotland.
Severe warnings - the highest level of alert - indicate there may be "danger to life".

An appeal has been launched today by the Cumbria Community Foundation to raise funds to support the individuals and communities throughout Cumbria devastated by the flooding and storms in December.
Anyone who wants to donate to the Cumbria Flood Appeal 2015 can do so via JustGiving or by cheque made payable to Cumbria Community Foundation can be sent to CCF, Dovenby Hall, Cockermouth, Cumbria, CA13 0PN.
You can also donate via text message. Send a text to 70070 with the message ‘FLUD15’ and a monetary amount. For example, ‘FLUD15 £10’
The Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund will provide financial help for people who have been affected.
