Word reaches Trib Towers, that none other than the 'Dear Leader', the deposed Marco Cereste, he of the trademark black leather coat, who famously signed off his official City Council documents, with an honorary Italian prefix (seemingly not done in the UK!) is seeking a return to Peterborough City Council as a Conservative candidate in the local government election in May, when all councillors will be fighting for re-election and ward boundary changes come into effect.
Clearly fed up with 'spending more time with the family,' he's tapping on the local conservative association door to be listed as one of their candidates.
But the word is, there's stiff competition for the last remaining place...and Marcos name isn't on it...well not so far, and backbench Tory Stewart Jackson MP ( ..chums with Ian Duncan Smith)who relentlessly seeks to deny us access to Legal Aid for DWP challenges) is choking on his muesli, even though Cereste wasn't even a councillor in his parliamentary constituency!
Clearly if Marco did return it would liven up matters, and we could see the return of some wacky ideas including water taxis, roofing in the open air 1930's classic public lido, possibly another stab at solar energy and a few more leaky fountain spouts!
The centre of Peterborough could also see the completion of his vision of turning a classic English Market City, into a replica of downtown Rome, complete with lines of statues (possibly on the existing concrete blocks) and trees consigned to planters (tubs)....
Still if Marco is hell bent on returning to the Civic suite, there is nothing to prevent him from signing up as a freestyling independent candidate, only the Tory election war chest would be denied him, and he'd have to personally knock on a few doors ...
and this time round those election expenses are going to be very tightly monitored... www.electionexpenses.co.uk
