The 'Not for Naz' mobile... as Cllr Sanders appointed Mayor of Peterborough and gets to ride in the new motor...

What a difference a week makes... and it just happens to be Friday the 13th too... A Peterborough City councillor Gul Nawaz, who once served a brief jail term, is in talks over whether to remain with the Conservatives, or quit and be an 'independent' on Peterborough City Council.

If Gul Nawaz quits the Tories , the Conservatives will lose their briefly held majority at Peterborough City Council.  They regained control in last week's local government elections, prompting a high speed flying visit from Prime Minister David Cameron.

Council leader and leader of the Conservative group, Cllr John Holdich, says its a done deal and that Nawaz has quit the party: “I can confirm that Gul has resigned from the Tory group but intends to remain as an independent councillor for Ravensthorpe.
Cllr Nawaz, served a one-month jail term in 2002, and was elected as deputy mayor in 2008.

5pm Friday 13th
just fancy that.....

Peterborough is back in Conservative control!
Gul Nawaz who had reportedly
resigned has told BBC
 he’ll remain a Tory councillor...

Stewart Jackson the backbench Peterborough MP, of "MPs expenses fame" said: “I supported him when he went to prison. I said he had made a mistake, and deserved the opportunity to wipe the slate clean and be elected."

Its understood that Cllr Nawaz had high expectations of being the New Mayor of Peterborough and sitting in the newly acquired top of the range luxury Jag ("the ex-con" having been 'a guest of Her Majesty' for a month ) and being invited to the Queens Annual Garden Party at Buckingham Palace (one of the justifications  given in writing for getting 'a new motor').

The role of Mayor has in the meantime been gifted to Tory Cllr David Sanders, taking over from Cllr John Peach. Meanwhile we can see Naz being offered an enhanced role ( Cabinet? )as the Tory group plead with Naz to stay with the Party, and they stay in control.

Troubles for the Peterborough Tories don't end there,  as questions are being raised over the Conservative Election Campaign declared expenses to win the new Stanground South ward, allegedly using the Anti Horsey Toll Anaerobic Digester Farm Planning Campaign, as a prime election platform.

Its claimed Conservatives using identical photoshopped visual materials in the Pre election 'In Touch' magazine, but producing a variety of expensive glossy colour publications during the accountable election expenses period.

Editorial policy: WE DON'T CENSOR NEWS, we will however come down hard on lawbreakers, all forms of ASB - Anti Social Behaviour, and anyone or group who seek to disturb or disrupt our neighbourhoods and communities, or in anyway abuse, take unfair advantage or financially disadvantage our citizens. We support the Park Farm Neighbourhood Watch and digitally carry the messages from this independent Neighbourhood Watch Scheme.

We are openly but constructively critical of all political parties (actual and sham), pressure groups, overbearing 'jobsworths' and those who seek to waste public funds, abuse public office, ramp up expenses, BUY VOTES and/or engage in any form of directed or robotic voting.

Whilst accepting that many in Public Office perform a valuable service and make a worthwhile contribution, there are others who are frankly rubbish.
