Monday lunchtime....The familiar sound of the solo mini gang mower briefly returns to the Greenwheel pathway alongside Park Farm Stanground and the River Nene. They are currently mowing ,wait for it.....one single pathside mowerwidth cut through the three foot high jungle grass, and doing it in the pouring rain!
Clearly your letters phone calls, and social media tweets have finally roused some action, even if the feeble instructions were garbled along the way.
Councillor Gavin Elsey who has Peterborough City Council Cabinet responsibility for grass (cutting of that is) actioned the single pathway cut, just as a wagonload of photographers from Fleet Street and telly people from Norwich are on the way to see how many dogs (and short councillors) have gone missing in the jungles, once known as public open spaces in cash-strapped Peterborough.
We are still offering the usual prize ( a pint (one) at the Brewery Tap ) for the longest blade of grass recovered. Its standing at 39 inches so far. .. you really could not make this up
