RMT & WILLOW: THE HEARTLESS AWARDS: Black tie celebrations and cosy dinner for two are possibly called for

The very sad press release below from RMT needs no additional comment, but locally in Peterborough Cllrs Seaton and Shearman could now hold a 'black tie' local celebration after their little 'altercation' coyly written up in the local newspaper.

Perhaps its the way the world is going,  something nasty delivered, then celebrate it?  Word is sponsorship is being sought for the raw steaks to cover any potential shiners ? Where is Butcher Brown when you need him?

We could also have another celebration, a very discreet candlelight dinner (sponsored of course) for two, marking the inept very public attempted canning of the Willow Festival?   (Don't worry folks its back, see our extended and updated story on the latest council debacle) 


TUBE UNION RMT today slammed the “disgusting and obscene spectacle” of nearly 50 senior TFL managers decked out in black-tie regalia at Mayfair’s luxury RAF Club as they celebrated the completion of a massive cuts programme that axes 800 safety-critical station staff and trashes 289 tube ticket offices.

In a gloating bulletin circulated to staff the management report the following:

“FftFS Team Celebrate Successful Completion

Almost 50 people from the FftFS (Fit for the Future Stations) team spent an enjoyable evening in the luxurious setting of the RAF Club in Piccadilly as they celebrated the successful completion of the main ticket office closure programme.
All 289 ticket offices were closed, within budget, in an immense team effort throughout 2015.

Mike Bracken, Head of Fit for the Future Delivery Team, spoke of the dedication and commitment of the team and congratulated everyone for their achievement.

“The team enjoyed a three course meal in a private dining room at the RAF Club and a good time was had by all.””

RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said: “It's frankly obscene that nearly fifty senior TFL managers treated themselves to a slap-up beano at the luxurious RAF Club in the heart of the West End to celebrate the axing of 800 safety-critical jobs and the smashing up of London's tube ticket offices. The union is demanding to know whether some of all of the cost of this disgusting spectacle was funded by the taxpayer?

“While TFL is talking about further cuts of over £2 billion that would devastate safety and services it is a massive kick in the teeth for the staff across the combine to receive bulletins from the management gloating about their axe-swinging antics. RMT members are furious that while they are being stretched to breaking point the top brass are out on a jolly in a luxury, private members club in Mayfair.”

TRIBNOTE: The RMT Union has it slightly wrong, all serving and past members of the Royal Air Force [RAF] may join the RAF Club. Mr Bray senior (some 30 years ago) secured the freehold for the RAF Club, for the membership.

NUJ Code of Conduct

The NUJ's Code of Conduct has set out the main principles of British and Irish journalism since 1936.

The code is part of the rules and all journalists joining the union must sign that they will strive to adhere to the it.

Members of the National Union of Journalists are expected to abide by the following professional principles:

A journalist:

1 At all times upholds and defends the principle of media freedom, the right of freedom of expression and the right of the public to be informed

2 Strives to ensure that information disseminated is honestly conveyed, accurate and fair

3 Does her/his utmost to correct harmful inaccuracies

5 Obtains material by honest, straightforward and open means, with the exception of investigations that are both overwhelmingly in the public interest and which involve evidence that cannot be obtained by straightforward means

6 Does nothing to intrude into anybody's private life, grief or distress unless justified by overriding consideration of the public interest

7 Protects the identity of sources who supply information in confidence and material gathered in the course of her/his work

8 Resists threats or any other inducements to influence, distort or suppress information and takes no unfair personal advantage of information gained in the course of her/his duties before the information is public knowledge

9 Produces no material likely to lead to hatred or discrimination on the grounds of a person's age, gender, race, colour, creed, legal status, disability, marital status, or sexual orientation

10 Does not by way of statement, voice or appearance endorse by advertisement any commercial product or service save for the promotion of her/his own work or of the medium by which she/he is employed

11 A journalist shall normally seek the consent of an appropriate adult when interviewing or photographing a child for a story about her/his welfare

12 Avoids plagiarism The NUJ believes a journalist has the right to refuse an assignment or be identified as the author of editorial that would break the letter or spirit of the code.

The NUJ will fully support any journalist disciplined for asserting her/his right to act according to the code
