|BBC Rogue Traders part of the new Watchdog series on BBC1|
Don't buy goods and services at your front door! Rogue Trading offences are on the increase (as highlighted by the new series of the BBC Watchdog programme) and now Cambridge Police Adviser Helen O'Driscoll is urging all Peterborough residents to be on a festive fraud alert.
Crooks need to get money in for their Christmas treats, only it will be your money they use....
She strongly suggests, older family members are warned to be on their guard, friends and neighbours advised NOT to deal with traders who turn up on their door step uninvited.
NEVER invite them into your home, no matter what excuse they may invent, how friendly they seem, even if any visual ID card produced is convincing.
Remember - If in doubt, DO NOT open the door!
If you suspect someone you know is being targeted by these individuals then please let Helen know.
She also asks that you record any vehicle details of companies that are cold calling in your area, and drop her an email: email@example.com with the information.
Police Cadets will be out next week in the Bretton & Longthorpe area raising awareness of these types of offences and @cambscops hope to do the same in other areas of the city.
Finally Helen advises residents of Bretton, Gunthorpe, Walton, Longthorpe & Netherton should be particularly vigilant.
