NO ROOM AT THE INN AND IN PETERBOROUGH NO ROOM OUTSIDE THE INN EITHER AS THEY ( THE COUNCIL) HAVE EMPLOYED A BOUNCER!

Lone bouncer paid for by the council ,guards St Peters Arcade bar on one side and building site on the other- soon to be another .....bar! Pictures by Cllr Ed Murphy

Paul Stainton writes on his facebook page:

Season of Goodwill, Homeless sleeper about to be handed over to police by the Peterborough council hired bouncer... Merry Christmas
Peterborough City Council who during the 'Dear Leaders' reign spent a small fortune tarting up this covered walkway (St Peters Arcade) from the back of the Town Hall to 'Cereste Memorial Square,' originally hoping to attract high end boutiques (prior to it being reduced to being a communal  entrance lobby to a couple of bars - second one opening soon ) have apparently seen fit to spend public funding 'running into several thousands of pounds' on hiring a  'bouncer' to keep out desperate homeless sleepers over the Christmas and New Year period.

All it does of course is point up that the City Centre with its much reduced police cover, is no place to be cold, alone and homeless over Christmas.  But the according to Cllr Murphy who supplied the pictures, the police were then contacted to move on the homeless.

Cllr Fitzgerald, who considers himself 'a bit of a night person' [ED: Good Grief!] decided to bluff it out on BBC Cambridgeshire earlier this week as he suggested that no one should be on the streets of Peterborough, and wheeled along a council housing officer 'Sarah'  to the BBC Peterborough studios,  the good lady then baffled bemused listeners with a mixture of spartistspeak (see Private Eye for an explanation), jargon and plain old gobblegook. Simply unable to string a few sentences together that sounded credible.

Sarah (probably on about an £80K salary?) was trying (but totally failing) to explain the complex council process of how the homeless could access council services. She baffled everyone.

Its was left to another homeless person who had been on the streets for some time to explain the system to Johnny Dee. Essentially the homeless person was over and over, told to come back later in the day, this went on for a few hours and repeatedly deferred appointments, them finally told to come back the following day! So still out in the bitter cold.   Additionally, if you have a pet, then its almost impossible.

Editorial policy: WE DON'T CENSOR NEWS, we will however come down hard on lawbreakers, all forms of ASB - Anti Social Behaviour, and anyone or group who seek to disturb or disrupt our neighbourhoods and communities, or in anyway abuse, take unfair advantage or financially disadvantage our citizens. We support the Park Farm Neighbourhood Watch and digitally carry the messages from this independent Neighbourhood Watch Scheme.

We are openly but constructively critical of all political parties (actual and sham), pressure groups, overbearing 'jobsworths' and those who seek to waste public funds, abuse public office, ramp up expenses, BUY VOTES and/or engage in any form of directed or robotic voting.

Whilst accepting that many in Public Office perform a valuable service and make a worthwhile contribution, there are others who are frankly rubbish. Although Julian Bray is the editor, there are several Blog administrators / correspondents who actively contribute by remote transmission to this blog.
