Peterborough pensioners enjoying a game of bowls, had their competition game disrupted over several days as 'yobs on bikes' have been tearing up the neatly tended bowling greens, and ripping the guttering off the Park Rangers hut in Central Park Peterborough claims Bob Hillier of Park Crescent Bowlers, speaking on the BBC Radio Cambridgeshire Breakfast programme.
Mr Hillier says elderly bowls players, some in their 70's were intimidated and sworn at by a group of Yobs during a competition match in Central Park.
Unfortunately the PBROTRIB has bad news for Mr Hillier as the outlook isn't good for the club. Peterborough City Council has an abysmally poor track record when it comes to facilitating bowling clubs. For many years, community funds from the old Stanground wards Central and East were year-on-year allocated by Cllrs Christopher Harper and Brian Rush maintaining a fenced off and permanently locked former bowling green, simply as the nearby Stanground Community Centre, where the two councillors are on the committee, apparently refused to let the bowlers, use the adjacent building as a changing room!
