Today Saturday is the last day to enjoy the 40th CAMRA Peterborough Beer Festival, the UK's largest outdoor tented beer festival and the weather is set to be ideal. Rounding up the musical entertainment tonight will be the splendid Motor City Vipers. DO NOT MISS THIS!
CAMRA Chairman David Murray (who is stepping down as Chairman after ten very busy years in the role, but expects to be actively involved with CAMRA in the future) says yesterday (Friday) over 11,000 visitors were welcomed. A big hit this year is the innovative Gin bar, where the queue for a range of speciality gins on Friday evening extended for some 60 yards.
Equally heartening is the Save the Cherry Tree Pub campaign is gaining ground as a new petition had people lining up to add their names to save this veritable site. The rumours that Milton Estates are considering an early bulldozing of the clubhouse part of the building before the petition has time to be presented, so they can continue with their high density residential development is unwelcome news, as is the fact that the vintage furnishings from inside the pub part of the building have seemingly been cleared and consigned to the tip. But what is welcome is that the funding part of the campaign is off to a good start with two major organisations pledging the start of a fighting fund.
A host of new beers many especially brewed for the Peterborough Beer Festival, and a good back up supply held safely cooled by SMALL BEER Ltd who are acting as the cellarmen for this festival.
